Sexual Harassment
"First of all, let me say that being sexually harassed
since 5th grade has gone beyond the damage of
affecting the way I feel.... Now...I have no pride, no
self-confidence, and still no way out of the [misery]
I am put through in my school."
— A Female College Student
Sexual harassment is a fundamental social evil. Sexual harassment strikes at the heart of our national commitment to equality under the law by creating barriers to success in the workplace and the economic independence that comes with it. Sexual harassment denies the essential human dignity that is America’s legacy.
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 forbids discrimination on the basis of gender. The United States Supreme Court has held that sexual harassment is a form of gender discrimination for which the civil law provides a remedy. Annually, The Rutherford Institute responds to hundreds of requests for legal help related to sexual harassment.
