Overhead Cost to a Free Society

Subject: Why Local Newspapers Are the Basis of Democracy

Well stated. Thank you. Hit hard on the nub!! A free society sets up a government to carry out functions that society requires. It is an OVERHEAD cost to a free society. Unfortunately, government has gained the up hand and now applies thought and economic control over society--Charles F.

No Enemy on the Side of Obama

Subject: Are We All Enemies of the State?

No John, we are not all enemies of the state. If you support the agenda of the Messiah/President Obama, certainly you are not the enemy of the state. --Cort R .

Hate Crime Agenda

Subject: What Is Wrong with the Federal Hate Crime Law?

I hope I can hate the"Hate Crime Agenda" I don't think much of the $&%#$((!@_|&^$ legislators that are purposing a thought control bill. Turn me in, maybe I can claim I'm nuts to dare protest. Free room and board in a mental institute and I would be safe from "YOU KNOW WHO"--Charles F.

A Trend Started with the Christian Right

Subject: Are We All Enemies of the State?

Yes- and this trend started with the christen right. God's enemy wishes to destroy their foe. It's quite simple when you think about it. Good site. I thoroughly enjoy it. --Gordon

Total Baloney

Subject: What Is Wrong with the Federal Hate Crime Law?

"Hate Crimes" are total baloney. A crime is a crime. In proving that X committed a crime, you have necessarily proven the perpetrator's criminal intent. No criminal loves his victim or gives two hoots about his victim. It makes absolutely no difference except to the "thought police" among us if you can also prove "hate". The effect on the victim was exactly the same. It is the province of the criminal law to punish acts not mere thoughts. Big Brother is coming and most of the people don't seem to care. They seem to be in favor of "hate crimes" legislation although that legislation is far more dangerous than the conduct it seeks to punish. --Stephen C.

Wow, that was so well said. I think I'm going to send it to my U.S. representatives. --B.

Frankie Schaeffer

Subject: Creating A Political Firestorm That Is Still Burning: An Interview with Frank Schaeffer

I just read the interview with Frankie Schaeffer. He "regrets painting everything black and white"? Really? He seems to be continuing that...on the other end of the continuum or pendulum. I am incredulous, and it is incredible how one of his background and once purported beliefs could now become so one-sided, intolerant, and blind. Just plain blind. Blinded by the shining light of Obama. This man is a fool, pinning his faith and optimism upon the words and image of one who is quite arguably and demonstrably the least qualified President ever. And we should simply go along, play along, with Obama as he further amasses his power base, further decimates the Constitution, and exacerbates the bankruptcy of America? Giving this guy the time of day and a lengthy interview would seem to be below the character of the Rutherford Institute. -- Bob N .

The Mass Media Giants Are Not Going Unnoticed

Subject: Why Local Newspapers Are the Basis of Democracy

I wanted to thank you for writing the article titled "Why Local Newspapers are the Basis of Democracy" I am glad to see that there are others like me who see that the mass media giants are not going un-noticed by more than I. The fact that all of the Media we watch on television is controlled by the conglomerates who own them and only let you hear what they want you to hear. Your right about younger crowds going to the Internet to get there news because we/I know that we only get to hear what they want us to hear on channels like NBC, ABC and FOX. Granted, there are a few shows on Fox now that Democrats are in the White house who are saying exactly what the "conspiracy theorist" are saying about both sides. I would like to see this country go back to the Constitution. Ron Paul, who I am a supporter of is on this same wave length. he has proposed a bill (HR 1207) which mean to audit the Federal Reserve. I encourage you to do the same.

There is an Event tomorrow at lunch time between 12-2pm at the Marina where there will be a demonstration by people who want the government to get back to the constitution.

I am sure you are aware that 8 of our great states have declared their Sovereignty in answer to some of the choices our current and past leadership have chosen in the past. There is quite a few people who are beginning to wake up to this mess we see before us. -- John , Concerned Citizen

"Time for Resistance" Is Right on Point

Subject: It's Time to Join the Resistance

Your recent article in the SMDP entitled "Time for Resistance" is right on point. I have written dozens of emails to our elected representatives in Washington starting in October. Ranging from our own Senators, Diane Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, here in California to many other Senators (Shelby, Grassley) Congressmen, the White House, various Senate and Congressional committees, and more, my concerns about the bailout scam (yes, that's what it is) have been routinely dismissed and brushed off.

It is crystal, crystal clear that Washington, including the new Obama administration, has sold out the American people. BTW, let me make it clear that the prior Bush administration was even worse.

NONE OF THESE PEOPLE LISTEN TO ANYTHING THE PEOPLE SAY ABOUT ANYTHING!

In a way, you could say we are now living in what I would call a free, fascist society. It is free because a citizen can still express an opinion or comment on an issue but no one listens or acts based upon those opinions or comments. - Brad P.

Daily Newspapers Have Become Corrupt

Subject: Why Local Newspapers Are the Basis of Democracy

My wife and I donate to your organization. And we know you are a good guy. But in today's release on the value of local newspapers, I believe you are way off base assuming you are talking about the importance of daily local newspapers and not the smaller once-a-week local pubs.

I am afraid, John, that the daily newspapers have become corrupt in America, so I don't give a damn if they go out of business. If subscribers felt these newspapers were important they would lay down the dime, but they don't and in droves. And that is the Holy Grail of our marketplace you are forgetting about; the opinion of the everyday American choosing who stays in business by who he support to stay in business.

Allow me to give you a reason I have seen nearby where I live and why I believe these daily newspapers are dying.

Our nearest local daily newspaper, for instance, had recommended that all cable channels in America should carry the Al-Jazeera channel writing' "Let's not squash it!" I even wrote the editor and reminded that person it was these Arab channels that had photograph our dead soldiers, such as Air Force fighter pilot Troy Gilbert, sending pictures to prove it. I did this because the editor said she did not subscribe to cable or satellite in her home, thinking she had not seen the pictures.

When writing this article the opinion editor had also been in contact with a Muslim Chair at Queen's College in Charlotte, NC, donated by a wealthy far-left progressive heiress. Think this has had any affect on the area? Guess what was just released this month in Charlotte, NC, which is also called Wall Street South? It was the first Pro Al-Qaeda magazine produced by Islam media firm, "as-Fursan." They even have a Web site promoting it.

Last year our local daily newspaper also refused to print an article on war hero, Michael Murphy. And a few months back this same paper had dissed another American soldier while publishing a pro-terrorist AP article about the youngest terrorists at the Cuban prison, wanting his Canadian mommy. The newspaper I am talking about is also located in North Carolina. And the soldier who was killed by this terrorist, his leaving two children and a wife? He lived in North Carolina.

Yet the local newspaper stepped all over him like it was a shoe and he was the butt. I had even called the publisher to advise him about who the soldier was this terrorist had killed, his having lived in North Carolina. But the newspaper didn't give a damn, a satellite of Gannett Publishing the largest newspaper chain in America.

You can read my research about this American hero on a page on my Web site at the URL http://www.freedomisknowledge.com/news/act2.htm#speerAP I hope you fume as I had.

So please stop telling us how wonderful these local newspapers are. The one I mention above, and I bet as well as most across the country, are simply water boys for the Democrat Party and why the Democrats want to keep them alive with our tax dollars, everyday readers understanding too well, too many are not worth the paper they're printed on.

Today I go instead to twenty conservative Web sites to find all the information these newspaper will be tossing on the floor, stories you will never see on their pages because they don't meet their radical progressive agendas . . . that could include yours.

Do what you want to do with this information, John. But you can't say you didn't know.

You Woke Me Up

Mr. Whitehead:

I read your article on Shadow Government (regarding FEMA camps) in the Quad City River Cities Reader in October and it changed my life.

Thank you for opening my eyes. I am now wide awake in a sleepy neighborhood. -- Sue J .

Chief Justice of the United States

Subject: The Schools Are Destroying Freedom of Speech

Re: Mr Whitehead’s March 25, 2009 column: schools have declined even more than Mr. Whitehead imagines. He writes, “For example, a national survey of high school students reveals that only 2% can identify the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court(.)” The constitution contains no reference to this title, nor does any other founding document. The title Mr. Whitehead apparently was looking for is Chief Justice of the United States.--Stephen S.
