Rutherford Institute Listed Among the 100 Most Powerful Liberal and Conservative Charities in America

The Rutherford Institute has been named among the 100 most powerful liberal and conservative charities in America, according to Paul Walsh, author of Will Al Franken and Bill O'Reilly Please Shut Up: How to Make Millions as a Liberal or Conservative (Tammany Press, 2004).

Will Al Franken and Bill O'Reilly Please Shut Up provides concise reports on the origins, financing and agenda of the charities Walsh considers to be among the most powerful in America. The list covers a broad variety of organizations, including The Rutherford Institute, the ACLU, the Heritage Foundation and the Anti-Defamation League.

The book's title stems from Walsh's view that liberal comedian, author and radio host Al Franken and conservative TV commentator and author Bill O'Reilly have become the personified voices of "liberals" and "conservatives" respectively. "Al Franken and Bill O'Reilly are two of the most intelligent and politically wise men on the planet earth, or at least they think so," writes Walsh. "[They] are making a fortune by blaming Liberals and Conservatives for everything that happens in America. Are Liberals and Conservatives destroying America? Or are Franken and O'Reilly laughing all the way to the bank?" Will Al Franken and Bill O'Reilly Please Shut Up challenges readers to look beyond the national squabble personified by these two political celebrities and discover for themselves what these influential charities really stand for and how they are contributing to the "Culture Wars."

According to Walsh, who has written the book from a non-partisan perspective, Will Al Franken and Bill O'Reilly Please Shut Up is "an excellent career guide for students and aspiring political gurus." Pointing out that most of the groups featured in his book offer internships, fellowships, scholarships, volunteer and full-time job opportunities, Walsh seems to offer his guide as a starting point on the road to activism.

The Rutherford Institute is an international, nonprofit civil liberties organization committed to defending constitutional and human rights.
