Now Available on DVD: Grasping for the Wind, the Award-Winning Documentary Hailed as 'The Answer to What Ails America'

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Vision Video has recently released for the first time on DVD the award-winning documentary series Grasping for the Wind. Written and directed by John W. Whitehead, founder and president of The Rutherford Institute, Grasping won the Silver World Medal two years running in the New York Film and Video Festival for "excellence in communications media which touch the hearts and minds of readers, listeners and viewers worldwide." Review copies available to members of the press upon request.

A brilliant, broad-ranging exploration of humanity's search for meaning over the last 200 years through art, philosophy, politics, literature, music and film, Grasping for the Wind explores the different ways Western philosophers, writers, artists, filmmakers, politicians and musicians have attempted to answer the question, "What gives human beings a sense of intrinsic worth?" "Most people don't have any idea of why they think the way they do," said Whitehead. "What I wanted to do was to show that a lot of what has shaped our thinking usually began in the mind of some philosopher, and then was spread by writers, artists and entertainers into popular culture." By connecting the art of Picasso, the music of Beethoven and the philosophy of Voltaire with the history of the past two centuries, Whitehead said he hoped to demonstrate the power of culture to shape society. Whitehead's ideas are further developed in a companion Grasping for the Wind book and study guide.

Grasping for the Wind has garnered critical acclaim since its debut in 1998:
• Dr. Ted Baehr, editor of Movieguide, raved "Grasping is such an intelligent exploration of our cultural decay and how we got to where we are that it should be broadcast on A&E, PBS, the Discovery Channel, and every other one of the TV and cable networks which feature documentaries."
• Library Video called it an "innovative exploration of humanity's search for meaning."
• According to Library Journal, Grasping has "excellent production values" and offers "a perspective [which] deserves to be heard."
• Cal Thomas insisted Grasping "should be mandatory viewing in homes and schools...[Grasping] is the answer to what ails American society."
