John W. Whitehead, President of The Rutherford Institute, Appears on 'For The Record'

WASHINGTON -- On Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005, at 8:30 pm, EST, and again on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 11:00 am, EST, Charlie Sydnor, host of WHTJ PBS' "For the Record" will air an interview with John W. Whitehead, president of The Rutherford Institute. Now in its fourteenth season, "For the Record" was created to bring central Virginians thoughtful discussions and first-hand insight into the worlds of politics, public policy and the office of the presidency. Sydnor, an internationally-known historian specializing in the history of Nazi Germany, policies of persecution, crimes of the Nazi Regime, and the history of the Holocaust, interviewed Whitehead about The Rutherford Institute's efforts to defend civil liberties and human rights. In particular, Whitehead will address concerns about the USA Patriot Act and the impact of 9/11 on American civil liberties.

"For The Record," a weekly public television series produced by WHTJ, features engaging interviews concerning American politics, the presidency, and public policy. "For The Record" is also produced in partnership with the University of Virginia Miller Center of Public Affairs, a research institution dedicated to the compilation of knowledge concerning the American presidency and government policies and communicating this information with the public. "For the Record" is distributed nationally by American Public Television (APT) to PBS stations across the country, including Atlanta, Philadelphia and New York City. Guests have included people from the world of politics, public policy, journalists and historians such as Katherine Graham, Bob Woodward, James Baker III, Dick Cheney, Robert Dallek, Michael Beschloss, Margaret Warner, Nightline's Ted Koppel, The Newshour's Jim Lehrer, and many more.

Founded in 1982 by constitutional attorney and author John W. Whitehead, The Rutherford Institute is an international, nonprofit civil liberties organization committed to defending constitutional and human rights.
